Defining morality

by Roxanna Kay

Morals are way under rated in society today. In the good ole days our country was governed on a high standard of morals. Now, all has gone to the way side, lost in the name of let's not offend the foreigners that blow in to our country. Let's not offend the non-believers with the beliefs this country was founded. It's not hard to look at the world around us and see the demise it has caused.

Morals begin with each of us individually. It's that inner voice screaming "don't do it, it's not right". When we take heed to that tug at our heart we experience a peace and feel good about our actions. It's empowering to know you've done the right thing. People with great morals do great things and make a difference within their community. Those of us with morals are by no means perfect. We know right from wrong and are geared toward what is right. Here are a few words associated with morals; blameless, courteous, correct, honorable, immaculate, incorruptible, just, noble, pure, and trustworthy. Strong words to live up to.

Temptation comes calling to each and every one of us. When a person with morals doesn't listen to that screaming inner voice and we commit an immoral act, we plunge into regret and shame. Sometimes it can take years to get over something you did against your morals and values. Sometimes you never get over it - you learn to live with it. An immoral act can tear a family apart and destroy lives.

Immoral means violating principles of right and wrong or not adhering to ethical or moral principles. Most of us are taught morals at home, church or school. An immoral person knows what they are doing is wrong and they don't care. Self indulgence consumes them. Whatever it takes to gain the power or material things they desire. Words associated with immoral; corrupt, dishonest, bad, sinful, and unethical. Strong words to have to live with.

Some are born with no remorse or morals. These people are amoral and do not understand the difference between right and wrong. This population has no regard for another human being. They find pleasure in others pain. Our jails are full of them. Studies show children that are cruel to animals at an early age lack remorse and morals. Our most notorious serial killers have this trait, among others, as children. Words associated with amoral; evil and vile.

With that said, considering the shape of our country, which group would our government fall under? Process of elimination...amoral the evil and vile group, probably not a good way to describe our government. Moral...the blameless, courteous, correct, honorable, immaculate, incorruptible, just, noble, pure, and trustworthy group. Probably not a good way to describe our government either. The only group remaining is the immoral group...corrupt, dishonest, bad, sinful, and unethical. Ring any bells? I believe we have a winner!

Here's a fact about morals...they are the foundation of life. Lose them and lose quality of life. Let our government lose morals and our country begins to fail. We have kids killing kids and kids killing their own parents. It's not uncommon for thirteen year old girls to have babies. We've all grown calloused to such reports, and that my fellow Americans is very disturbing. Our government has tampered with the morals taught in schools. The removal of prayer and now they want to do the same thing with the Pledge of Allegiance. I don't recall "We The People" getting a vote on abolishing prayer in our schools.

Morally speaking, I will say God bless you. I will say Merry Christmas and Happy Easter. I will say the Pledge of Allegiance with pride. If that offends you then leave the United States of America or learn to deal with it. If our government can't stand up to the people coming in demanding we alter our morals and values then get the hell out of office, we don't need you! That is, morally speaking of course.
