If you share figure company with celebrities like Queen Latifah, Kirstie Alley and Camyrn Manheim, it is beneficial to learn how to flatter your curves with fashion. This article provides a brief overview on flattering fashion looks for plus sized girls.
Keep it simple
Simple garments tend to work well on plus sized women. Pleats, ruffles, pockets and gathers all add unnecessary extra bulk to a woman's figure, so they are best left for boyish figure types.
Do wear the same color top to toe
Most people are aware that the color Black is an effective slimmer, but there are also ways to wear color in a flattering manner. If you wear the same color from top to toe, it creates one long line and therefore elongates your figure. Where possible stick to dark or deep colors, and avoid white and pastels.
Don't wear baggy sacks
Shrouding your body in shapeless attire will not do your figure justice. Buy your clothing semi fitted; it should be no bigger or smaller then required. If you have trouble finding items that fit, consider buying the larger size and having it tailored in the areas required
Do Wear a correctly fitted bra
When the fuller part of your bust is allowed to drop lower then exactly halfway between your shoulder and elbow, it can create a dumpy appearance. The right bra can lift your breasts into position and help you show off your waistline and bust to its fullest potential.
Don't wear spandex
Spandex garments are not forgiving in the fashion stakes, they really only suit lean gym junkies. When it comes to lounge wear, look for items that have a large percentage of cotton, bamboo or modal and just a touch of lycra. For example, wide leg palazzo pants that are 97% cotton and just 3% Lycra. These have a nice drape to them.
Do embrace the wrap dress
A wrap dress can hide a multitude of figure flaws on just about any figure type. It draws the eye down and across, thus elongating the body. A dark colored style with a small print can be particularly flattering.
Don't wear loud prints
Small scale repetitive prints can be very flattering on plus sized women, but large, crazy prints aren't likely to do you any favors. If you are looking for a good print to incorporate into your wardrobe, why not try vertical pinstripes. They
Take care with button front tops
Gaping buttons only make you look like you are wearing a size too small, so it's best to look for shirts that have a concealed placket.
Do embrace a long trench coat
A long line trench coat free from fussy details is one of the most flattering jacket styles for plus sized women. Stick to single breasted styles, preferably those with a concealed placket. Avoid puffer jackets, because they only add more bulk and create a shapeless look.
In addition, it is a good idea to consider how your hairstyle and posture are affecting your appearance. Good posture and the right haircut can make a big difference to your overall appearance.
