Is communication over-rated

I think the idea of communication being overrated is probably the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. Communication is the essence of our lives. If it was not for use being able to communicate with each other, we would never know the needs and wants of one another. This is why I must wonder why the idea of communication being overrated is even out there. Is it that people are unaware of how they use communication in their everyday lives? Here are some of the basic ways that we communicate with each other on a daily basis.

Verbal Communication

Everyone knows that the most basic form of communication is verbal. When we want something we ask. When we need something we ask. Even if we simply want to express our feelings towards something, one of the most common ways we do this is by talking. If we were unable to communicate through speaking with one another, we would lose an essential part of the way we live our lives. As humans, we communicate by talking and thus, we are able to express our feelings through our tones of voice. This is a unique characteristic that I believe is very important to the way we live our daily lives.

Non-Verbal Communication

Another form of communication that we use on almost a daily basis in our communication with other people is non-verbal communication. We have all heard of body language, but think about just how much of it you use and interpret in a given day. From a simple smile, to seeing someone rush past you on their way to class, there are many ways that we communicate to others simply thought our body movements. If we did not have non-verbal communication, we would simply walk around like drones all day, everyone dressing alike and acting alike.

Technology

The last important form of communication that I am going to mention, is the technologically enhanced communication. With the development of technology has come the development of the ways that we lie and communicate with others in our lives. From our text messaging habits, to our constant e-mail and IMing, technology truly has changed the way we communicate. Think about it, if we didn't have technologically advanced communication we wouldn't be using this site right now.

While some people may believe that communication can be overrated, I am a person whom believes that it is one of our most valuable qualities as humans. With the various ways that we communicate with each other, we as humans truly have a gift with our communication, and this gift is something that I believe is not in any way overrated.
