The best eye drops for eye allergies

by Jamie Pancake

Although most people who suffer from allergies can attest to how miserable they are when they are experiencing the symptoms of their allergies, eye allergies have to be the allergy that exhibits the most uncomfortable symptoms for the sufferer. Not only are you constantly wiping your eyes when they are watery, which will make them sore and irritated, but if they are itchy you are constantly rubbing them which will also make them irritated. It is a no win situation for you until you can get your allergies under control. If you like to wear contact lenses, you can kiss them goodbye until you can get your allergy symptoms under control. Since the eyes not only are in charge of your vision, one of the most important of your senses in my opinion, they are also very sensitive and should be treated as such. Damage to your eyes can be very devastating to you if they are so irritated that permanent damage occurs.

There are many different types of eye drops that can help to treat the symptoms of eye allergies so that you can enjoy the warm weather without having to constantly tend to your itchiness and watering, and they all work in their own way and they can either be effective or you will have to keep looking for the right treatment. If your eye allergies are so bad that your everyday life is affected by them, you should first talk to your doctor about your symptoms and they will help you to find a treatment that is right for you. Sometimes an oral medication will help to keep your eye allergies in check and one pill a day will be enough to enable you to enjoy life just as those who do not have allergies do, but other times you will need to seek the assistance of a good eye drop.

The first way to alleviate your eye allergies is to avoid the things that you are allergic to so that they do not become affected, but most of the time that is not possible, especially if you like to be outside when the weather is nice. You can also check you local news channel's website to see what the local pollen counts will be on a particular day and if at all possible, avoid the outdoors when the pollen counts are especially high. There will be plenty of days that the pollen counts will be low enough for you to manage your allergies with minimal medication, so enjoy those and also benefit from getting an old closet cleaned out or that spare bedroom that you tend to throw all of your clutter into. There will more than likely be a few houseguests over the summer that could use that room to stay in for their visit, so make the most of a less than ideal situation by getting some things done that will probably need to be done eventually anyway. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Doctors recommend that the best place to start as far as eye allergies go is to use artificial tears to help clear the allergens out of the eye in a natural way that produces the least amount of side effects. If those do not work, there are still eye drops of different types to choose from. One type of eye drops that has been proven to be effective for eye allergies is eye drops that contain a mast cell stabilizer called cromolyn. These types of eye drops are used before the eyes are exposed to the allergens and need to be readministered several times throughout the day, so they are obviously not ideal for many people. SInce there are so many different eye drops to treat eye allergies, these should only be used if recommended by your doctor as being the most effective way for you to control your eye allergies.

There are also eye drops that contain another type of mast cell stabilizer called ketotifin. They do basically the same thing for your eyes that the mast cell stabilizer eye drops do, but they may work more effectively on some people than others. There are also a number of different types of eye drops that your doctor can prescribe for you if you continue to have no relief for your alergies. What type of eye drops you choose is up to you and your doctor to decide upon. There are eye drops that contain antihistamines and corticosteroids, which are an anti inflammatories and they help to block the histamine that your immune system naturally releases to protect your body from the allergens. Most doctors have agreed that the most effective treatment for your eye allergies is anti histamines and eye drops containing mast cell stabilizers. Using both of these types of treatments will help to ensure that you are prepared to deal with all of the different allergens that can make your eye allergies unbearable to deal with.

Although there are many different types of eye drops to treat eye allergies, talking to your doctor about your symptoms is the best way to start a treatment plan that will not only effectively treat your allergies, but it will also help you avoid all of the nasty side effects that tend to accompany many allergy medications.
