What is forever? Till the day we part? As long as you do not sign for a divorce, your marriage can last forever, whether in life or in death. Why in death? If you are alive, a deceased can stay in your heart till the day you passed on. Marriage, however, is not equivalent to love.
Many people, our ancestors especially, stay in a marriage even though they are no longer in love with their spouse. It is a natural process for people to get married, have children, and live to ripe old age. Many couples stay together, not because of love for each other, but because of responsibility they have for their spouse, and children.
The days are gone whereby women are less educated, and do not have the financial means to cater for themselves or their children in the event of a divorce. Women nowadays have more choices, and have the courage to end an unhappy marriage.
Marriage has become more vulnerable, with a lot more temptations in life, and opportunities for everyone to meet more people that share your interest or goals in life. That does not mean that a marriage can no longer last forever. It depends on your view of marriage, and the sacrifices you are willing to put in to make your marriage work. Some couples will seek the help of counselors to save their marriage if they feel that they could not let go of a marriage.
In certain countries, if the reason for a divorce is not due to infidelity on either party to a marriage, the couple can only get a divorce after they have been separated for a minimum of three years. Relationships are fragile. You can vowed that you will love your spouse till the day you enter your grave, but forget all about your promise the moment you are involved in a heated argument with your spouse. You probably need time to savor the loving moments you have with your spouse, and allow yourself time to think about whether you want your marriage to last forever.
A day seems like forever for couples that can no longer love or tolerate each other. They may feel suffocated, and need someone to confide in rather than their own spouse. To stay together forever is of great misery to a couple that can no longer share their future together.
What you sowed before your marriage, is what you will reap after marriage. If you are ill prepared for a marriage, and does not know what to expect out of a marriage, you will face difficulty having your marriage last forever.
Marriage is but a piece of paper. A marriage can last forever simply if both parties to the relationship are willing to compromise, and tolerate each other's imperfections.
