Can you prevent yourself from being a rape victim?

Rape is a brutal act against women, children and the elderly. It has reached beyond female victims to boys and men. The state of our society is in peril due to such perverted crimes which culminate from childhood abuse or misguided notions that the person deserved what that got or in the rapists own perception, the person asked for it by giving off certain signals.

Rape is a devised tactic, it's carefully planned and thought out, calculated and exercised in the mind before the immoral offense is carried out against someone. This is why it's important to be on your guard at all times, especially around people you know or think you know well enough, to place your trust in them.

If a rapist is prepared for an attack isn't it wise to be armed with a counter attack. Anyone could be a potential victim of an unscrupulous person set upon doing mental and bodily harm. You're at their mercy, your life is threatened, you're inflicted with bruises, scrapes and cuts. The freedom of your livelihood is quickly snatched away once you become a forced participant fearing for the safety of your life.

Unfortunately, rape can't be completely prevented, no one wants to live in fear and feel as if you must look over your shoulders every minute of the day. Therefore, we become relaxed in our daily routine and begin to think nothing will happen. You could live in a nice neighborhood, a gated community patrolled by police. Your home is secured with an alarm system, you have a neighborhood watch program, all the basics seem to be covered.

Even while doing everything you can on the outside to protect your life, it's a waste of time if you allow your common sense to go out the window. I would love to believe that I can go out and be carefree without worrying about a crime being committed against me. I pray and ask the Lord for protection as an added defense. But, if I take my life for granted, I'll leave myself wide open to anyone who is looking for an easy target.

Devising defensive actions is using common sense, the process you decide to implement as a preventive measure to keep yourself safe from harm as much as possible, could save your life, help to avoid being a victim of rape or any other crimes against humanity. There are steps you can take to hold on to your freedom of life.
