Poetry: My angel

TED AND LILA

I didn't know I would need them, Ted and Lila were their names.

They were an older couple whom God sent just the same.

Old enough to be my dad and mom, but did they ever know,

That one day Ted providentially found our house on that Caroline Street in San Bernardino a long time ago.

He was looking for a body shop and seeking someone to fix a dent in his car.

But my husband, who did body work in the garage, gave him a deal from which he could not depart.

His name was Ted and he came to bless us, not then known to me.

It was later that I knew God sent him to help us in our multiple emergencies.

He and his wife, Lila ,were gentle and kind.

They seemed to know our sorrows and it seemed Ted could read my mind.

Whenever we couldn't pay a bill, I'd call, and he was there to give a helping hand.

I never knew such people, so simple, so pure, were still in the land.

Ted rescued me from many moments of distress and insecurity

He called me "Sis" like you would a daughter, and that was how it would always be.

He and Lila gave unstintingly to our family in our times of need.

I just know God was in that plan and met us in our extremities.

Now Ted and Lila are resting in Jesus for that was a long time ago.

I miss their kind spirit and only God will ever know.

But I long to pass on what they gave us to others who are in need.

I want to live a simple life, like them, and rescue others that bleed.

Yes, they even helped me when I was bleeding and didn't know what to do.

But their example has led me to be more sacrificial with others, it matters not so much who.

My angels they both were, Ted first, and Lila were their name.

And I know another person who actually refers to Ted as "The Angel" as I do the same.

Lord, let me live to be an angel to anyone who needs my help to keep alive Ted's and Lila's flame.

And Lord, help me not to live lavishly and high on the hog so that I may share,

And let others see You in me as I saw You in Ted and Lila who for me and my family cared.
