After nine months of pregnancy followed by labor and delivery, you are blessed with your new baby. What follows all seems to occur so quickly - constant feedings, sleepless nights, frequent diaper - changes that it seems incredulous that a new mommy could ever experience boredom.
So what happens if you're a new mom who feels bored?
As much as babies need routine, it is fun to break away from it once in a while. Why don't you and Baby get active? Weather permitting, enjoy walks around your neighborhood with Baby in tow. Be sure to keep in contact with loved ones, who would love to spend some time with you and your little bundle. Go to the park, and even join a Mommy and Me group in your neighborhood. You will get to meet other moms who may be going through the same feelings you are. As an added bonus, you'll get some adult conversation in during your day (other than ga-ga)! Your baby will enjoy it as much as you do!
Playtime with baby can be changed up, too. It may not seem that your newborn is responding to play, but studies have shown that infants, especially those born prematurely, gain rapid strides in growth and development with increased warm, loving interaction. Don't worry, before you even realize it, you'll be able to play catch and hide-and-seek with your toddler!
Another great way to relieve new mommy boredom is by keeping a journal, or picking up a new hobby. On some days, it may not seem as if you have much time for anything other than taking care of your baby. But try to set aside at least 10 minutes a day and do something that will relax you and inspire you! Jot down anything that you want to remember of the day; vent out on paper, if you have to. Sketch something, even if you feel that your drawings aren't much better than a kindergartener's.
Years later, when your child is the nonstop toddler, child, and adolescent, you won't even recall that time of boredom. Save your mementos to look back at, and to share some funny stories when your little newborn becomes your adult child and best friend.
