Sorry

Sorry is all very well
But it's only a word.
Sorry can't un-say what's said
Or un-hear what's heard.

Sorry can't feed hungry mouths
Or clothe the unclothed.
It can't make suddenly loved
What's always been loathed.

Sorry is all very well
But it cannot undo.
It cannot believe what is false
If it's always been true.

Sorry is said all the time
With hardly a thought.
But sorry is only a word
Or so we've been taught.
