I feel that the euthanasia can be the best option for some animals. Being a huge animal lover myself, I would stress that if there is at least a 10% chance that they can live and be happy with surgery or medication that would be the better option because they want to live and to fight for the right to be here just like anyone else. But, if an animal has been hit by a car or fallen from a high window, and they are in terrible pain the question then isn't can they live but if they do live will their life be full of pain will they still be able to join you on the couch, run and play in the great outdoors or will they not be able to get up to even go to the bathroom.
I once knew a woman who had a dog for 15 years and loved it dearly. This dog sadly developed cancer, I'm not sure what it started out as but I know that is was inoperable. This cancer was untreatable and the vet told her that her dog would die from this. The woman was saddened but refused to let her dog go.
Slowly the cancer spread, it eventually caused her dog to not move so well, leading to the dog becoming bedridden, this also caused terrible sores on the dog's side and head. When I last saw the dog she was only able to wag her tail but if you looked in her eyes you could see her pain and that she wanted it to end but was still holding on for her beloved master who refused to let go.
The dog lasted for two months in this sad condition eventually unable to hold on. Yes are pets love us to no end but that is why when we are faced with a situation like this one, we should decide that it would be better if we be selfless and let are pet go, because instead of endless suffering they get a shot, go to sleep, and the pain is over.
