Perhaps one of the best ways to engage a student with ADHD is to arrange for accommodations and modifications to the learning experience that can be used by all the students. ADHD children already feel different. A learning environment that does not intensity these feelings will be most productive.
Most of the children in your class may never experience problems with self-regulation or with attention deficits that are outside the norm for their levels of development. However, all of them can benefit by many of the activities and tools that are designed to provide a well-rounded learning experience, while using multiple strategies to particularly engage ADHD students. By avoiding the necessity of singling out those who have special needs, the classroom can become a focused learning environment that is inclusive and non-threatening; one that is characterized by innovation and positive energy.
