Tips for going visiting with a baby

Being a first time mom I anticipated the first outing with my daughter. I of course decided to make the first trip a small one and went to the grocery store. Slowly I gained the courage to take a trip that lasted several hours and I was packed with my arsenal of baby necessities to probably last a couple days. I've found it's better to be safe than sorry. It's important to not only have a diaper bag packed with daily needs, but to also have a few extra items stashed in the car. I have a top 10 list of must have items to get you through any adventure you and your baby may take.

#1 Diapers

My daughter uses the bathroom quit frequently so I would recommend taking enough diapers to change every 2 hours. I also usually take a couple more than I think I will need in case my trip is prolonged. Make a habit of keeping extra diapers in a plastic bag in the trunk you never know when they might come in handy.

#2 Wipes

The travel size wipes never seemed to last very long during my extended day trips. I now buy the wipes which are the size of the refill packs, but have the dispenser built in. I made sure to have a diaper bag large enough to accommodate them and haven't run out yet.

#3 Extra Clothes

It's bound to happen that your baby will need 1 or 2 changes of clothes in any given day. I make sure to have weather appropriate clothing both in my diaper bag and in the car. This includes onesies if necessary. Whether it's spit up, spilled food or a leaky diaper, having an extra change of clothes will help to keep you and your baby happy and stress free.

#4 Extra Food/Milk

Some babies start eating solid food sooner than others. It's essential for both the babies physical health and your mental health to have enough food on hand. This includes keeping a spoon and/or extra bottle liner in your bag. Jar baby food keeps for a while, so there's no harm in keeping a couple jars in your bag and your car. If your baby is breast fed you have you problems there, but if your baby is formula fed you need to have extra. Whether you've chosen to use powder or pre-made, it's a good idea to buy a couple of 8 oz. pre-made bottles. There have been quit a few occasions where I've been grateful to have them at my disposal.

#5 Toys

One key thing to keeping a baby happy and occupied is toys. Whether your baby likes rattles or toys that squeak it can keep them happy in the most trying situations.

#6 Burp Rag/Bib

The best way to try and protect both you and your child's clothes
