Shopping on the internet is much easier than going from store to store searching for just the right thing. Comparison shopping can be done without wasting a ton of gas money and you don't have to walk forever through a store to get to the items you want. There are issues with shopping online though. The main issue being safety. Is it safe to shop on the internet? That all depends on how careful you are.
Tips on shopping safely on the internet:
VeriSign
When you enter on online store, look for this logo. This logo will ensure that the site is safe to shop on. VeriSign keeps all of your personal information safe from hackers and other scams. Most large businesses will have this sign on their site. When you put in credit card information, you can feel safe that your numbers won't be stolen by anyone.
One Time Charge
Be careful what you sign up for online. If you are shopping for something that requires you to join the site for a fee, they will usually charge your card once a month or so for the membership fees. Although these fees can be low, they add up overtime. You should also be aware of it so that you don't overdraw your bank account when they take it out. Look carefully at the page that you are "signing" to make sure that the site is only going to charge the fee one time. That means that they cannot automatically charge your account each month.
Encryption
When you enter your credit card number into the sites system, the number is encrypted so that no one can see what all of the numbers are. That means that employees at the headquarters of that store cannot see what the numbers are and cannot copy and use them. This protects your card employee misuse.
Website Info
Most sites will have information on the security measures they have in place for you. Look for this information and read what the business is doing to make you feel more at ease while you are shopping there. If you cannot find this information on the website, you may be better off calling the store to place your order. This will keep your information from going through your computer system at home.
If you have any doubts about the website and its safety, find the company phone number and call in your order. That is the best way to ensure that your transaction will be safe. It is safe to shop on the internet if you watch for the things listed above. It is just as safe, if not safer than shopping in a real time stores. Give it a try. Online shopping is so much easier than dragging yourself out of the house.
