Surviving a long distance relationship takes an awful lot of maintenance. Trying to keep a long distance relationship afloat relies on commitment and an action plan. Without the proper care, as with all relationships, failure will be imminent. Both people need to be on the exact same page, and there can be no room for minor discrepancies, or else jealousy will rear its ill begotten head and run amok.
Long distance relationships can often be difficult to maintain and nurture, with a wide variety of factors coming into play. Survival depends on many key facets, such as actual distance, loyalty of both parties, trust, visitation frequency, communication plans, and the reaction to being constantly alone even while in a serious relationship. The not knowing factor is always prominent, and can ruin even the healthiest of relationships.
In order to survive a long distance relationship, there has to be plenty of frank discussions, and a clear insight as to where the relationship is heading (one person relocating). Does the relationship have marriage potential, or if it is more of a whim and fancy? If the relationship is long distance for a temporary period of time, it is far easier to maintain. If the distance will be a factor for a long time, then constant communication is invaluable. This is where the action plan comes into play. It is easier to reach a goal when it is in sight.
Trying to stave off a breakup is hard when distance is a major factor. If you cannot see your partner for long stretches of time, it takes a toll on the psyche of both involved. Human nature embraces touch as a major factor in a relationship, and when this is missing, the heart aches perhaps just that much more.
Surviving a long distance relationship is not an easy task, as it requires far more patience, understanding, and time than its regular counterpart. Long distance relationships are hard to maintain, but if both parties are equally committed to the endeavour, then it should be able to work.
The keys to surviving long distance relationships involve taking the time to make it work, and to fill your heart with the utmost of trust and loyalty. When you find yourself in a situation where a long distance relationship is necessary, there are several steps that you can take as precautions to ensure the success of the relationship.
1) Communicate often. Make sure to purchase a long distance phone plan with your local provider, so that you can optimize savings while still maintaining a relationship.
