Should gay people have the same rights as heterosexual couples? I don't know; should we have the right to choose our own religion, to voice our own opinions, to follow our own dreams or to even write what we want to write about?
We are in the year 2009 people, and it is time to quit living like ignorant cave men. We are living in the "land of the FREE" not the land of conformity and definitely not in a land of the past. If we can choose to live our lives freely and and even choose a religion that goes against every Christian belief that this country was founded upon, then why would be be denied the right to choose who to love? It doesn't matter what anyone says; we choose how to live our lives, and I, for one, will never allow anyone to decide who is "right" for me, man or woman.
Whether or not homosexuality is a sin is irrelevant. In God's eyes, all sin is equal; it us who puts a degree system on sin. For example, we generalize that homosexuality is worse than cursing, and even that pre-marital sex is more acceptable. It is time for us to quit worrying about the lives of others and take a stand for what this country stands for, which is FREEDOM in all aspects of life. Like the Declaration of Independence states: we are all "endowed with certain unalienable rights, that amongst these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". How about we honor this belief, because it is our right to alter society when the government interferes with any of these rights.
Let God be the judge and all the narrow-minded people out there stop being the judger's. Personally, if we want to put a degree on sin; I think that God would be a lot more happy for someone to find love than if they went around protesting homosexuality. In addition, I certainly don't think God, who is perfect, would make someone gay if he didn't mean to, and no matter what anyone says, it is NOT a choice that is made. There are as many gay people in the world with great morals and goals, as there are straight individuals. Who cares if you like men or women, worry about your own life and relationship and quit getting involved in other peoples affairs.
If homosexuality is such a big deal to you, maybe you should take a good hard look in the mirror and contemplate on what it is that makes you feel so strongly; a guilty conscience perhaps? I do recognize that marriage is a religious ceremony to honor the union of a man and woman, according to the bible, and honestly I haven't whole-heartedly decided whether I believe it is wrong or wright in religious terms, at least. What I do know, however, is how I feel about it on a personal and non-religious level; which is that I have no problem with it. Furthermore, even if gay people were denied the right for a religious marriage, should they still be denied the opportunity of some similar type of union? Perhaps a civil union, or is that still stomping on your beliefs and crushing them into the dirt?
Everyone deserves to have the same rights when it comes to the person they love! I just don't why it is taking so long for us to get over they whole "gay" thing. Not too long ago, our country realized how idiotic it was to judge someone based upon race, social class, religion, beauty, etc., so what is the hold up with homosexuality. I just know one thing; it's time to get used to it people, things aren't going to change and the future always brings change. Climb out from underneath the rock in which you live and grasp the future that is to come. Homosexual rights will become a reality just as every minority has gained rights in the past, it's just a simple matter of time!
