Basic steps to start losing weight

Losing weight can be a difficult process for many people. There are so many programs, pills, exercise machines, and pitchmen that the real secrets to weight loss get lost in all the hype and confusion that goes along with it. The real secret to weight loss is to eat healthy foods found in nature and to increase daily activity.

The Proper Weight Loss Diet

To begin to lose weight, you need a proper diet consisting of foods that nature provides for us and what we are meant to eat as human beings. Fruits, vegetables, fish, lean meats, nuts, seeds, and whole grain products are the best choices for weight loss and overall good health. This food provides the body with the proper nutrition in the form of vitamins and minerals that the body needs to function at optimal levels. By taking in natural food your body has the energy it needs to begin to lose weight and get you more into balance. This is easier than it sounds, simply spend the bulk of your food budget on natural whole foods.

Eliminate Processed Food

Almost all packaged food has been processed to one degree or another and stripped of many of the vitamins and minerals that the food would have had in its natural state. Food that comes in a package needs to be as whole as possible with few ingredients on the food label. High levels of sugar, salt, animal fats, and additives are added to many processed foods and this contributes to weight gain. The processed food you are eating is high in calories, fills you up, leave you satisfied, but deprives your body of the nutrients it is screaming out for. You gain weight because you are eating food with little nutritional value. Our western lifestyle has caused this over processing, giving us convenience and taste at the expense of our health.

Water

We consume too many drinks that are full of sugar. Colas, other pop. sugary juices, coffee, and high alcohol consumption, all contribute to weight gain. Water should always be your drink of choice as it provides the hydration you need. Leave out the sugar drinks and you will drastically cut down on your calorie intake.

Exercise

To lose weight you must keep your body moving and burn the excess calories you have stored as fat. Exercise also helps to strengthen your heart, muscles, and your lungs. If you are eating natural whole foods and exercising your body can burn fat because it is getting the proper fuel it needs to do so. If you are carrying a lot of weight you will need to take exercise slowly and pace yourself but still work as hard as you can. Walking is a great activity to start out with or you could try light weights.

Education

Another basic step you can take to lose weight is to educate yourself. Learn all you can about your body, healthy meals, and proper nutrition.

Positive Thinking

The power of positive thinking can do wonders for you. Be positive and work towards your weight loss goals. Don't get discouraged if you slip from time to time. Use the Internet , friends, and family for support.

Food is the fuel of life and whole natural foods will help you lose weight and regain your health. Exercise will strengthen your body and allow you to burn more calories. Eliminate the processed food in your diet and drink water. Education and positive thinking are also important to your weight loss.
