by Lindsay Oliver

Created on: June 23, 2009

When creating this list, each movie was chosen depending on an adult's desire to watch these movies now and how much they were enjoyed by children of their time and as well as children of the present. These are movies for everyone. Family movies do not just have to be enjoyable for the children, but should entertain the adults as well.

15. The Sound of Music (1965) Everyone enjoys Julie Andrews, now throw in some Nazi's and some nuns, and you have an adventure of an unconventional family with some great tunes. Adults will enjoy it because the plot line is great and children will enjoy it because the songs are catchy and everyone wishes they had a babysitter like Julie Andrews.

14. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) - Teaching good family values, even though the rough divorce scene, this movie is hysterical. It shows the strong bonds a father has for his children, and that even though every family may not be perfect, happiness of the whole family is everyone's main priority.

13. The Wizard of Oz (1939) The story of Dorothy, who ends up in the Land of Oz after a tornado. She encounters a lion, a scarecrow, and a tin man on her way to see the Wizard in an attempt to get home to Kansas. Adults and children alike will enjoy it because the story is imaginative and compelling.

12. Toy Story (1995) The first in the slew of Disney-Pixar animated films, it is the story of a boy's once favorite toy, Woody, who gets replaced by the new Buzz Lightyear, and Woody's quest to become his owner's favorite again. This heartwarming tale is enjoyable for everyone.

11. The Lion King (1994) Arguably the last of the Disney classics, this movie has a little bit of everything song, action, romance, and good family values. It is the story of a young lion cub, who is next in line for the throne, running away after a tragedy while finding great friends and himself. Children enjoy this Disney classic because of the songs and loveable characters. There is a strong message of good versus evil, and what it's like growing up unsure of who you are. It's a classic storyline that adults will definitely enjoy as well.

10. E.T. (1982) An alien is left behind and is befriended by a human. He learns about Earth customs and develops a strong connection to the human who finds him. His desire to go home is strong and a human task force hunts him continuously. Children learn about the value of friendship based on things other than looks or materialism.

9. Wall-E (2008) Although a little preachy at times,
