Poetry: Beyond love

Years ago I met you.
But we were both too shy to make any moves.
We were just kids when we met and fell in love.
But, even though we were young
our feelings were real
and they were so strong and so exciting
it was like fireworks going off
everytime we looked into each other's eyes.
When we grew up
we committed ourselves to others.
I'm now single.
You're still married.
I recently met someone new
and the way I feel about him
reminds me of you.
I didn't know that was possible.
I still have love for you.
And I thank you for what we had.
It gives me the courage to pursue him.
Knowing that if I don't
it could be a repeat of you and I
and I can't take the chance
of letting true love pass me by.
Again.
