Poetry: Good-bye

I want to be with someone
but it can't be you.
Not when I think about all that you do
and all that you did.
Sometimes I get lonely being without you.
But, I was lonely when I was with you too.
I know there are people out there
who will make us happy forever.
But, those people aren't each other.
We don't belong together.
It's not fair to us to pretend we're okay
when we're not.
To continuously hope that the other
person will change.
I don't understand you.
And, you don't understand me.
Time together is making it worse
not better.
We're growing further apart.
Bridges are being broken
that can't be mended.
I can forgive.
But, I can't forget.
I thank you for the good times.
They've given me indescribable joy.
I thank you for the bad times.
The pain has made me stronger.
And lessons have been learned.
In time, feelings have changed.
You have changed.
And so have I.
