"Shhh" he said,
Youll hear the sounds.
Pushed his raft along lazy waters,
I closed my eyes to listen to the trees and the rocks.
I drifted along
Warmed by tropic sun,
In and out of caverns and light,
Lulled by gentle waves and playful wet whispers.
Salted Caribbean kisses
And turquoise peristaltic waves
Took me away to times and places.
Places memory forgot but hands remembered.
It rained in the French Quarter that night
"Stay with me," she tempted.
The saints marched in and I left with them.
A black umbrella dripped me to blue mountains.
Bicycling on an island dream,
Following tanned legs and inviting smiles
I stole a kiss by the highest cliffs,
My water-logged soul asked if this was home.
The waterfall's showers bring me here and now
The raftsman smiles-he knows my question.
How can I quiet my soul? I asked.
He said "Just let go, young man."
Trust the water's whisper, he said.
Let it take your weight
This is your fate and destiny.
A journey the soul must make
"How will it know when it gets there?"
"Sometimes the soul just knows."
"How do I know when I'm ready?"
He said, "You'll know. Just let go."

Water
Memories are like water
Elusive, crystal clear, and bitterly
Dark at times.
Some are delicate and,
Often slip through
