Video game reviews: The Sims 3 (PC)

The Sims 3 is the newest addition to The Sims family. From expansion packs to new platforms available The Sims has made its way to a higher percent of the American population in one of it's many different forms, may it be The Sims (the original), The Sims 2, or any of The Sims games available on most gaming consoles, and now The Sims 3.

The Sims 3 has bragged about new improvements such as a higher quality of graphics, and game play. They have also really pushed how well the customization of nearly everything in the game can be. The Sims 3 is supposed to be the best of the best, greater than any Sims before it: But is it?

When your open the game launcher there is an area that shows a news feed of the sims.com and new items that can be purchased, etc So you press the big play button and the game opens, a small introduction video plays (but can be skipped through by clicking) and then comes the loading screen. The game has improved its loading times. The main menu loading time is about a minute, which is not very long compared to earlier Sims games.

A menu shows up and you press new game, it then brings you to a town with pre-made households and a whole plot line with them. You then click on create a Sim. This action brings you to a small room with your Sim and a mirror. The customization of your Sim is outstanding. You can define the shape of their jaw to the very slight crease of their eyes. But when it comes to the fashion of your Sim, The Sims 3 really downsized. The selection of clothing is very limited and small, although you can customize the color of any article of clothing put on your Sim.

Personality traits vary from humorous to clumsy, to even scared of commitment. Then you can pick your Sim's life long dream from a select few of career choices based off of the Sims personality that you chose for them. These play out in the game play too. In example if your Sim is inappropriate then socializing with other Sims might be a challenge.

The game play of The Sims 3 is easily compared to The Sims 2. Most all of the commands are the same, although more actions are available. The career choices are more in depth. Going to work now a whole new experience now too. You can ride your bike, drive, or have a carpool bring you to work. You can have different modes of work that you can set every day such as work hard or hang out with co-workers. Your co-workers are also just normal people living in your neighborhood; so you can suck up to your boss and possibly get a raise or promotion.

I was relieved when I saw that the game wasn't much more than The Sims 2 because honestly it's not THAT much better. But all in all the game was improved, the only flaws that I found was the small selection of clothing. I hope you enjoy the game.
