For people that are new to the scrapbooking hobby, it may be a serious question about why this hobby has become so popular. Like many other hobbies and interests such as golf, fishing or knitting, scrapbooking captures its enthusiasts and it becomes part of who they are. There are several reasons for the boom in the scrapbooking industry.

Families

Most people really value their families highly, and scrapbooking allows people to preserve the memories of family togetherness. Children are such an essential part of family life and they provide an abundance of scrapbooking opportunities. Some examples are baby's first tooth, first birthdays, or the beauty of spaghetti being everywhere. Scrapbooking is a way to preserve family memories.

Technology

Scrapbooking really started to boom with the advancements in digital photography. Now people can digitally crop and enhance photos before putting them on a page. In addition scanners allow scrappers to put older photos on a scanner and make new enhanced photos also. It is the advancements in technology that really drives this business to continue to grow.

Can do it Alone or with Friends

It is up to the scrapbooker whether this is a hobby that is done alone in a spare bedroom or at a weekend scrapbooking convention with friends. It can be a social event, but it also allows for a mom to put a page together while the baby sleeps. It is the flexibility of this hobby that makes it enjoyable and practical for many people.

Appeals to All Ages

Scrapbooking can be done with elementary aged children, teenagers, adults or seniors. All ages can find something that they would like to scrap. Teens love to scrapbook pages about their friends. Young children can be given a few pictures of them at the pool and a few water related stickers to complete a page of their own while mom works on a more serious version of the same page. Seniors often enjoy creating scrapbooks about the past or their grandchildren.

Allows for Creativity

A great hobby for creativity, scrapbooking allows people to show off their artistic ability at the same time not are so demanding or difficult that just anyone can't pick it up and do it. It really doesn't require artistic talent, but it does allow a person to share a little bit of that kind of talent with others.

Improvement in Supplies

It used to be that scrapbooking meant a huge book with tied strings and a drab gray page that items were glued or taped to. Today the significant improvement with colorful papers
