Essential software everyone should have on their laptop

In many respects, essential software for laptops may well be similar to desktop requirements. For example, you can consider software such as utilities or office suites.

However, no software will be more essential than the operating system. Perhaps this may seem obvious, but software like XP or Vista OS will be fine & provide compatible software platform. Windows 7 may be another possibility. For the most part, these will be included with laptop.

The office software is usually considered an essential. To start with, a word processor package like Word is good to have installed. For drafting documents, for Helium, letters or other correspondence this will be required.

Further to this, spreadsheet applications such as Excel are good. With this software, you can produce a variety of spreadsheets.

Aside from the office software, you should consider system utility software as well. Glary utilities, is recommended utility software. This software has a variety of options, for disk clean ups and general optimisation. Better still, Glary utilities, is available as freeware.

Another possibility is software like Tune-up utilities 2009. This software also provides good utility options as well as further desktop customisation options. It is not freeware, but a 30-day trial version is available.

In addition, you may consider other more specific utility software. Software such as Fcleaner perhaps, or alternatively Quick Start-up is good utility software.

Web browsers, are required software. There are a few available, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Any one of these will be okay for browsing but they have variable features and options. Firefox and Internet Explorer are amongst the best browsers, but others like Safari might better suit some. At any rate, browsers are freeware.

For PDF files, you will need appropriate software. There are two, which are recommended. Firstly, Adobe Acrobat is one, and then Foxit Reader is another. Both are good software to have installed on laptop and are freeware.

For DVD, you may require DVD software. There are few, such as WinDVD, or other software like Real Player can also be suitable for this.

So overall, be it on laptop or desktop, this software is good to have installed. Office software, like Word and Excel for spreadsheets, utility software for optimisation and support such as Glary Utilities, a web browser, PDF software and DVD (or media) software for DVDs are all very good to have in addition with the entirely essential OS.
