Preparing to head out of the house and visit can be a daunting task for many parents. Deciding what you'll need, what to take, how long you'll be and a million other things you need to think of as a parent, you're bound to forget something. It will be that little something that is forgotten that will end up being the most important thing you'll need for you or your baby.
Getting out of the house is great for both parent and baby. It relieves some of the monotony that is involved with being a parent, revolving around baby and household chores that seem to accumulate. It is also a way for your baby to get out of the home and discover new things too.
Determining what items you need for baby when visiting is best learned from experience as what works for one person, make not work for another. But to make the experience easier and more pleasant, here are a few tips that will help you prepare your baby for a visit.
Recognizing Routines
You and your baby would have established a few routines. As a parent you can recognize the approximate times your baby gets hungry, the times they need a sleep and the time that they usually feel discontent.
The easiest times to visit are those when your baby is more alert and has had a decent feed and sleep.
Where are you going and how long?
Before you go anywhere, try and preempt how long you will be out visiting. Is it only a couple of minutes away from home? Or is it a long drive that may cause you to be farther away from home? Try and fit your outing around those times when your baby is more content instead of the times when they're not.
The items you take with you and how many will depend on how long you're going to be out.
Being prepared
When my children were babies I'd always have an emergency bag packed in the boot of the car. This bag always contained extra nappies, extra wipes, a spoon and tinned baby food when they reached the age that they needed it.
Depending on the age of your baby, they may require different things, such as baby food, bibs and extra clothing. No matter what you take with you, packing too much is sometimes better than the alternative.
Items that your baby always needs
The items your baby will always need will depend on their age. A newborn does not require food but a long visit may require a safe sleeping area that will need you to pack a baby sleep carrier or even sometimes, a mobile bassinet or cot.
