Long ago, when life was much more simple,
And childhood smiled its welcome on the day,
A face lit up with tiny baby dimple,
That took all thoughts of sadnesses away.
Long ago, on walking up to sunshine,
The optimism children always feel,
Was yours and every adults, even mine,
Until the world turned serious and real.
Long ago, our world was Tom and Gerry,
Replaced by news of war upon a screen,
The choices simple, multiple and very,
Expressive of the things we really mean.
Though adulthood brings with it certain pleasures,
It's hard forgetting everyone must grow,
And lose the balance of life's joys and measures,
Defined by what we were so long ago.
