I agree fully to that statement. Dressing professionally makes you feel confident. This translates your body language in one that is of confidence. When you are confident, you become more outgoing and willing to try on new things which will eventually elevate you good feeling. This resonance is so powerful that even an introvert can be become outgoing and full of life.
Being confident translates the feeling to anyone you meet, be it regarding your business or otherwise. It makes it so much easier for anyone to feel at ease doing business with you as it will should to them that you take yourself seriously. If you do not take the time to tidy yourself up or do not care about grooming yourself, how much care would you give to anything else! This might not be objectively correct to reason. However, in this world, perception is what is reality. Reality could be anything. However, not everyone has the time to get to know you personally. As such, you have to hit it off right away!
This trust will in turn lead them to believing that you take your business seriously as well. In such recession hit times, all the more you need people to perceive you as value for money without even having to open your mouth. This would mean more sales and business opportunity for you.
Dressing professionally would get your first foot through the door. The rest is up to your personality and charm. Dressing professionally will make you look professional; not only to your business prospects but also to your employees, your colleagues and other authorities. This would make a lot of things easier for you. From making your point across to getting the job done on time, you will have the exuberance to push people to co-operate.
Dressing professionally is not only required when you are in a business context. This is especially so because, in business you are constantly networking. You are meeting many people a day and you never know where your never prospect is. Hence, it is essential that you carry your aura everywhere you go. Dressing professionally is just like carrying your name card. You would never want to run out of name cards when you are in a business party, I presume. Just as that, you would never want to be caught in a sloppy attire. Hence, it always pays to dress well and professionally. You need not wear a blazer all the time. However, a well pressed casual wear would do just fine.
However, I must warn that, dressing professionally is only one aspect of driving your business. There are other aspects of self grooming that needs to be in order that would help you accomplish what you aim for. Examples of such would be the tone and pitch of your voice, your choice of words, your punctuality, the warmth of your smile and the likes.
