When looking for a good home for a pet, one of the two big things to look for is the personal interaction between the potential owners and the pet. Obviously, the potential owners themselves, would be the other.
The future potential owners should show a genuine interest in the pet and should be fairly knowledgeable about the pet and its breed. When looking for potential pet owners, look by word of mouth. You would be surprised what good old-fashioned word of mouth can do for you. Not only will you hear from others who is interested in getting a pet, but you will learn of how responsible or dependable they are. You will also learn how truly serious this inquiry for a pet is.
Another way to seek out potential pet owners is through the Internet. Never, under any circumstances, should you sell your animal on-line. However, you can advertise that you have a pet that needs a good home and include any payment details if they are applicable. This helps to generate interest in your pet because many people today use the Internet to locate everything and anything. When I recently was looking for a dog to join my family, I first looked on the Internet. I also found my dog's breeder there.
Once you begin to get inquiries about owning this pet, you should immediately investigate them. Have a questionnaire drawn up that you can immediately hand-out or e-mail to the potential owners. This questionnaire should include questions, where applicable, that are similar to these questions: What made you interested in this particular breed? Why do you want this type of a pet? Have you ever had a pet before? If so, what happened to that pet? Do you promise to get the animal spayed or neutered? These types of questions are very important. They help you determine just how interested someone is in obtaining your pet as well as how much they genuinely care.
Still, NO MATTER WHAT, you need to meet the potential pet owners in person. You need to watch how they interact with the animal. In fact, some dogs simply hate a few people they meet immediately. I work at a veterinary clinic and I can tell you from experience that I have seen the nicest dogs harbor hatred for someone they have never met. Rarely does this happen. However, it can. The nicest dogs can love everyone upon first glance except for one person. Don't let that person be the potential owners. With these thoughts in mind, I hope you are able to find good owners for your pets.
