Alternatives to Ebay

by Cheryl Rickey

Most people think eBay is the key to finding great deals online. However, there are several auction sites other than eBay that have incredible bargains. When you are looking for a bargain, do not limit yourself to eBay. It may have been the leader in on-line auction shopping for quite some time, but there are many terrific alternatives out there.

When you are looking to purchase an item by auction, consider the fees involved before you bid. Compare shipping fees and the overall rating of the person selling the item. eBay has an excellent rating system in place but there are also an increasing number of sellers who are overcharging on shipping and selling poor quality items. Research is very important when purchasing an item from an auction site.

Ubid.com is a great source for anything electronic. A great deal of what you will find on Ubid.com is refurbished, but most come with a minimum ninety day warranty.

There is excess inventory from big manufacturers such as Apple, Sony and Hewlett Packard. There is a big selection of anything from computer monitors to iPods, so if you're in the market for a great deal on a pricey electronics item, Ubid.com might have what you are looking for at a really great price.

Sam's Club is not only store that has bulk groceries. It has an on-line site named Sam's Club Auctions at SamsClub.com. You will have to pay a $40 fee to join, but the discounts on the auction items are big. They have a wide variety of items including TV's, housewares, camping gear and computers.

Overstock.com is well known for its discounted fashion items. From great jewelry to a Gucci bag, bidding on Overstock.com auctions can be addictive if you love designer items. There are not only items from liquidators, there are rock bottom auction prices on items that are returned to Overtsock.com. Do your research to find out what the item goes for in a regular retail environment and then start bargain hunting on Overstock.com

Goodwill is often thought of as a place to donate your used clothing. However, Shopgoodwill.com has incredible deals on collectible, dishes, jewelry and even designer purses! Downside? No exchanges or returns. Take your chances on a great 'steal' by looking closely at the photographs of the auction item.

Ebid.net is a great alternative to eBay. If you're selling on-line, the fees are less expensive than eBay. As far as finding a bargain, there is a huge selection of great items from around the country. Books, jewelry, musical instruments and electronics are just some of the thousands of items offered on eBid.net. It is a phenomenal site that has gained in popularity since eBay began hiking their fees!

Next time you are looking for a bargain online, go beyond eBay. There are more and more auction sites popping up on the Internet. Just make sure they have a solid reputation before you start shopping.
