Kids room decorating ideas

Kids rooms are very fun and easy to decorate. With a little bit of thought put into it you can design a room that will grow with your child and will last you a while. You should, of course, be mindful of whether the room is for a boy or a girl, however, you could always do one that doesn't favour either sex. This comes in very useful in the case of having twins or other siblings sharing a room.

There are some basics, as far as furniture goes, that every room should contain ideally, such as a bed, dresser (or a closet/ storage equivalent). You should also make sure your child has, if not a computer desk, a work desk with enough of room for school projects and homework. If the desk is basic with no added on shelving and such have at least one bookshelf in the room.

Another must have is a magnetic chalkboard. You do not actually have to buy one of these, you can buy magnetic primer and chalkboard paint and create it straight on the wall while incorporating it into the design of the room. Smaller children will benefit from the chalkboards educational uses and as they grow they can use it for notes, studying and decor.

The placement of the furniture should be well thought out too. For instance, you want to try and position the work desk under the window, give them as much natural light as possible! Try to avoid over crowding, if the room is crowded when its brand new imagine how it will be once the child gets in there. Creating, not too obvious, areas of the room dedicated to specific tasks is also a good thing to think about. You want them to have their study area around the desk, of course the very important play area and also a place for resting. I can not tell you how to arrange the furniture as there are such drastic differences in the shapes and sizes of rooms and in peoples tastes.

As far as the colour in the room goes, you should buy plain furniture or solid colours that will match the overall colour scheme. It works if the dresser is used and not brand new, same goes with the desk or the shelves. If they are wooden and have finish you can always sand them down or just paint over them for this project. While colour is great, especially considering that the room is for a child, don't go too crazy with it. You don't want to end up with a room looking like a mismatched quilt giving everyone a headache.

A good colour for the walls is green, it relaxes, stimulates and at the same time screams fun! You can find various stencils or vector designs on the Internet for use in decorating the walls further. From there make sure that the rest of the furniture flows with the walls.

You can paint on chess board and some other board games onto the top of your child's desk. This eliminates some of the mess and they are more likely to end up reaching for game pieces than game controllers.

The ideas and options are endles, if your child is old enogh consult them on what they like and want to see then work with that to create something spectacular
