Ontario has always charmed many by its diverse environment, culture and history. Everywhere you turn there's a special something just waiting to be discovered. From the tranquility of the Northern Cottage country to the magnificent South, each region offers a unique charm.
The North is filled with an abundance of wildlife, nature trails, beautiful resorts, great fishing and so much more. You can escape the trials and tribulations of city life and relax in peaceful serenity. Explore Algonquin Park, take a boat cruise through the 30,000 islands, tour the nickel mines in Sudbury or camp at a remote wilderness camp for some extreme fishing. While there, you must of course visit the ancient boreal forests in Algoma Country where you can enjoy the splendour of nature and wildlife as you explore the world's largest game preserve.
Eastern Ontario allows you to bask in the warm hospitality of the French communities. From the Ottawa valley to the Quinte country, Eastern Ontario will not disappoint. The Ottawa valley is host to the famous ghost town of Balaclava or you can trek through Algonquin Provincial Park through this eastern entrance. The Rideau Heritage route is home to the stately parliament hill, Canada's seat of government. Tour some of the beautiful heritage homes that abound in some of the prettiest villages in this area. Take a cruise along the spectacular 1000 island along the St. Lawrence River don't forget to bring your camera, you'll need it, as the scenery is astounding.
The Greater Toronto Area is a tourist Mecca showcasing some of the best museums and art galleries and theatres that compete with the best in the world. The diversity of its people is what sets this region apart from most others. Take an elevator to the top of the CN Tower in Toronto and experience a panoramic view of this beautiful city. Experience the amazing waterfront attractions of Harbourfront or Ontario Place or better still, take the ferry across to Centre Island or Ward Island with unspoiled beaches, parks and nature trails.
Of course, a visit to Ontario will not be complete unless you explore the beautiful wine country of Niagara Fall with its spectacular falls, casinos and grandiose gardens. Celebrate the Niagara Grape and Wine festival as you visit the vineyards and sample some of the world renowned Ontario wines. Take a trip on the Maid of the Mist as you capture the beauty of Niagara Falls and then relax and take in a show at one of the casinos at the falls.
South Western Ontario is home to the beautiful Bruce Peninsula, Shakespeare country, Lake Erie and Pelee Island. The Bruce Peninsula is a bird watcher's paradise and if you visit in late summer you can experience the migration of thousands of Monarch butterflies, an experience that's worth the visit. Visit some of the many theatres in the region for an entertaining night of fun. A visit to this region is a must for all travelers. Take a lesson from history as you explore the secret underground railway that carried many American slaves to freedom in Canada or you can celebrate the German heritage at Octoberfest in Kitchener/Waterloo, which is also home to the Mennonite people of this region. Point Pelee Park is a favourite of most travelers to this region as it offers one of the world's most renowned bird sanctuaries. Alternately, you can visit the Stratford Theatre festival in Shakespeare Country.
Last but by no means the least is the famous Ottawa Region, Canada's Capital. Hike along the Rideau Canal and watch as hand-operated locks dating back to 1832 maneuver boats. Take a trip on the beautiful Edwardian style boat and cruise the Ottawa River and experience the diversity of both the English and French Canadians.
