Most women that are pregnant experience food cravings at some point in time during their pregnancy. Pickles, ice cream, peanut butter, the list goes on and on. Some are pretty normal, but some tend be very odd in nature. These cravings are an odd thing to have happen but when it comes to pregnancy and nutrition most of them are safe. There are some things that a woman may crave that can be of concern, but these tend to be a rare occurrence.
If you look back in time, there are many old wives tales that say that certain cravings mean certain things. Sweets are said to mean that the baby will be a girl, meats are said to be sign of having a boy. There are times that the cravings can be for things that are very strange like chalk, dirt, and clay. These are not normal cravings and need to be addressed by your doctor. They can prove to very dangerous to you and the baby. They are also signs that your body is lacking something that it should be getting. Your doctor will be able to run tests that can determine what you are lacking and adjust your diet accordingly or prescribe something that will help ensure that the things that your body is lacking you are getting. The importance of nutrition and pregnancy is huge and strange cravings should not be ignored.
Cravings are simply the body's way of telling you that you need to eat something specific. You may be needing more sodium, thus crave salt enriched foods. Fruits are usually associated with the need for Vitamin C. These are both things that a person needs more of during pregnancy. Also when the cravings end up being for things like sweets, it can become a large reason for the amount of weight that a woman gains during her pregnancy. The link between pregnancy and nutrition is very vital thing that a woman needs to be informed about. Learn of ways to keep the cravings that you have at bay.
Start the day off right by having a healthy breakfast. This is one of the best ways that a woman can maintain optimal nutrient levels in their bodies. It also will be huge help in eliminating cravings later on in the day. Try and eat a more healthy diet, look into new foods that are out there that will help you to do this. Healthy food is mandatory when it comes to pregnancy and nutrition. Opt for one of the new kinds of soy chips to nibble on instead of the greasy old potato chips. There are other different types of foods that are very healthy for you as well. Look at what is in the store, some of the choices are very tasty, not just full of health benefits.
