What does it mean to be "American"? The answer lies within the pride of the American spirit. America has long since been a beacon of freedom and justice to a world hungry for the rights, God given and blood bought, that we in the United States enjoy daily. We as Americans are very well known for our resilient tenacity to survive, be free, and be better. It is these rights and attributes that make us proud to be Americans and it is our moral convictions and ethical foundations that make us shine.
In the infancy of our great nation, our forefathers overcame seemingly overwhelming odds to become independent and free from the oppression and tyranny of monarchs. In lines of hundreds they marched directly into the face of death for one reason alone; to be FREE. To attain God given rights and a better way of life. They fought for the freedom to worship and believe without prejudice or punishment. Our forefathers explored and settled in a strange land that has become the expanse of the modern day infrastructure and the future of our next growing generations. One can only imagine the true power of a dream founded and cultivated so many years ago. The dream to be FREE.
As with any great society, we too, have had our share of ups and downs. More than a century ago brother fought brother and the very core of our democracy was shaken but never did it falter. Nay, we became better, we became Americans. During the years of reconstruction, the United States became more industrial savvy and our technological advances began to increase at rates never seen before. The United States was becoming a young super power not only in military might but also in industry. We should be proud as a nation, at the achievements of our forefathers and the moral standard that they established through hard work and faith.
Today, in present day America, the United States of America is active in each and every catastrophe relief effort and has been for decades. Providing food, clean drinking water, and millions in medical assistance and rescue; the United States is the leader throughout the world in charity and the promotion of freely democratically elected governments. From D-Day through today, America has and will stand for the basic God given rights that are the rights of each and every individual throughout the world. As we fight against terrorism and other evils throughout the world, we as Americans must never forget where we come from and the price that was paid for the rights we enjoy. There are those out there that would love nothing more than to see the implosion of the American way and that is why it is so important for the world to know that we are proud to be Americans and we want the world to know FREEDOM.
