The common mistake most girls make when it comes to getting gifts for their boyfriends is overanalyzing everything and anything. Men (or boys) do not really care about the great lengths you go to, finding that perfect shirt for them or how long it took you to put the final sequin on that gigantic card you made him. Men care about tangible things that they can see and feel (why do you think breasts are so interesting to them?). So when it comes to buying presents for a boyfriend, you want to keep it real; you don't have to go through too much of an effort but make sure you pay attention to the details, because more often than not, your boyfriend might have already told you the best present you can get him for his birthday, and he might even have mentioned it three or four times within the course of a year. With that in mind, here are some tips for choosing a great birthday present for your boyfriend.
You can never go wrong with buying something in the realm of technology for your boyfriend. Even the most technologically challenged male would appreciate a new Ipod or a cellphone. How about a subscription to an online game or movie rental program like Netflix or Gamefly? And if your checkbook and credit cards allow it, which boyfriend would not give you an extra dose of lovin' just for getting him that latest Apple 3G phone or Sony Playstation? Of course, it all depends on what your boyfriend's interests are: whether he likes music, games, movies, reading or running, there's something technology and electronics related he is bound to like.
When it comes to clothes, it gets a little tricky. Some men aren't particularly fond of clothing items, but you can never go wrong with a sensible polo t-shirt or a nice button-down. Better yet, get him a giftcard to a store. Remember, men don't care if it's just a cheap plastic card you ordered over the internet, as long as he can use it, he'll love you for it. Most men already have a wishlist on Amazon and would appreciate it if you actually got him something from that list, since it's something they probably want and will use!
Alcohol is another potential item that you can get for your boyfriend for his birthday, and I don't mean just a regular six-pack. All men enjoy a couple of drinks every now and then. Figure out which is his favorite kind of drink and get him the alcohol to make it! If he likes Manhattans, get him a good bottle of rye whiskey. If he likes Scotch, buy him an 18-year old single malt and if you get him top of the range stuff, chances are he'll be bragging non-stop to his friends about what a great girlfriend you are.
Finally, not all presents for your boyfriend have to involve massive sums of money. More often than not, they appreciate your company and time more than anything else. As the saying goes, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. And it's really true! Cook him a great meal, take him to the movies and give him coupons to three hours of non-stop loving and he'll be the happiest birthday boy in the world.
