How to deal with rude people

Throughout your daily life, you will encounter various numbers of rude people. You may want to burst out and start verbally abusing them, but those people who are able to effectively deal with rude people are also able to live life peacefully.

When you encounter a rude person, never act the same way towards them. Even though you may have the urge to do so, you have to contain yourself. If you do act rude towards them, then you are also setting yourself down to their level, and that's not what you want.

First, you have to remain calm. Take a few deep breaths, and count slowly up to ten while inhaling and exhaling deeply. Or, if you prefer, think of a calming piece of music or song that you can silently sing to yourself. Do so for ten seconds.

Keep your eyes directed towards the person. If you lose your focus, you may not be able to gain the person's attention again. Don't look directly at the person's eyes, if you are uncomfortable doing so. Instead, look at the bridge of the person's nose.

When you talk to the person, do not raise or lower your tone of voice. Keep your tone even and flat; this way, your voice sounds mechanical yet appropriate, and very authoritative. If you raise your voice, the other person might think that it sounds like a challenge. If you lower your voice, on the other hand, the other person may think that you are afraid of them.

Rudeness indulges in making people shrink. But, do not allow yourself to do so. Make sure that your posture is straight and strong. Stand tall and keep your stomach tight.

Choose and use your words wisely. Make sure that you have formed each sentence before you say the sentence. You want to avoid any more comments or questions from the person. If the person is just passing by and has pushed you, you should say nothing more than an, "Excuse you." Do not, however, say it in a menacing manner, and remember to keep your tone of voice flat and even.

If you are in the customer service industry, it will be doubly difficult to deal efficiently and effectively with a rude person because it is your job to be courteous. However, you do not have to deal with verbal abuse. Any person with any common sense will report any verbal abuse. That is why you should not make the situation worse by sounding angry. Instead, appear to be as courteous and as friendly as possible, and always ask, "May I help you with something else?"

Rude people receive a rude awakening once they meet friendly people.
