An excerpt from Remember!

The Guardian Finnian appeared in a glow of white light above Eurielle and with the moonlight caressing Eurielle, she touched the water from the ancient well with her finger. As she did, a mist of steam rose from the water in a mystical trailing wisp that began to shimmer and ascend into the atmosphere of the room until it reached the ceiling. From there it traveled along the ceiling, spreading like the roots of a tree until it covered the entire area. It pulsed with energy within then suddenly gathered itself back together until it was again just plain water in the bowl in front of Nemetona. With the special cloth she had prepared earlier, Nemetona dipped the end into the water and squeezed the drops of water into Eurielle’s mouth. Immediately Eurielle relaxed and seemed to sleep. Meanwhile, Cadfael fell into a deep trance and summoned the Guardians from the light world. He would need their strength and wisdom if he were to keep the dark ones away from the newborn child. The Sylphads, Elfwyns and Salamanders, the Masters of Midor, crossed their staffs to create an aura of energy around the room, protection against the evil lords of the Dark World. Once again the steam rose from the bowl of water to the ceiling, this time the energy was filled with an explosion of color. Another brighter white light appeared as The Guardian Epona materialized and then together, The Guardians Epona, Finnian, Eurielle’s grandmother Nemetona, the Elfwyns, Salamanders and the Sylphads chanted words unintelligible to Malachi while he looked on in wonder at the wild display around him. He glanced back at Eurielle and saw her suddenly rise to gently hover over the bed with a look of total serenity on her face. Nemetona had explained to Malachi earlier what was to happen and that he shouldn’t be frightened. He had to be strong to help Eurielle if needed but the display before him took him by surprise and just as he was about to grasp at Eurielle for fear she would fall, she was lowered back to the bed. Nemetona reached under the sheet covering Eurielle and nodded smiling.

'The time is here,' she said, and then Nemetona commenced the ritual words. 'With the protection of the Guardian Epona' she declared in a strong voice, 'and the messengers and protectors of the Light World and the land of Midor, allow this child to be born into the light. Let her path show wisdom and courage and bring goodness to the hearts she touches on her journey
