What is a scrapbooking crop party?

Shortly after my first daughter was born, I received a phone call from an old scrapbooking buddy who just signed up to be a scrapbook company consultant and knew I had tons of photos of my new baby. She told me about all the new scrapbooking products available and asked if I wanted to hold a crop party at my house. I had no idea what a crop party was and she said that it was an in-home event where I could invite people over to scrapbook and learn about new supplies. After the initial excitement, I was looking forward to seeing the products that would replace my construction paper and glue sticks.

As a crop party hostess, I had to decide who to invite to the event and when to have it. I sat down with pen and paper and created a list of people that would enjoy learning about a new hobby and people who were already scrapbookers. I invited my relatives, friends, neighbors and a couple co-workers. After figuring out who to invite to the party, I chose a time when they would be available and sent out invitations two weeks in advance.

The day of my crop party, I had snacks and refreshments for my guests and was ready to scrap. Each person was told to bring a few photos and my consultant friend would give us some scrapbooking tips. When everyone arrived, we sat down and our lesson began. We learned about basic scrapbooking and then were shown some essential products such as albums, stickers, photo trimmers, pens and paper punches. Our consultant then taught us a few techniques to make a scrapbook page more creative.

We talked about the importance of journaling and how to crop photos. We looked through some old scrapbooks and got ideas from my consultant friend's recent scrapbooks that displayed the new products available. Then it was time for my guests and I to work on our projects.

During the crop, our consultant assisted us with photo placement and shared ideas to improve our scrapbook pages. When we were all finished with our pages, we each had time to share them with each other. There were "oohs" and "aahs" and some wanting to learn "how did you do that?"

After sharing, it was shopping time! We looked through our catalogs and decided what supplies we wanted to purchase. The best part about being a crop party hostess was receiving free products based on the total event sales. I was able to have a shopping spree in my own house. Some of us were able to receive products right away since our consultant had them in stock and then we had to wait for our order to be shipped to receive the rest.

Having a scrapbooking crop party was a great way to get me back into scrapbooking with better and safer products and turned some of my guests into avid scrapbookers.
