Poetry is one of the hardest writing forms to specifically group into one category. Its authors come from all different backgrounds and experiences. It is difficult, therefore, to accurately describe one's "experiences" in poetry, such that others will understand it. They may never have had the same situations happen to them, and thus cannot truly understand one's point of view. While some people are able to understand the specific situation of the author, these are likely to be very few. They may, however, appreciate the underlying view of the author, which becomes most important for humanity, regardless of background.
The opinions of a person are his or her beliefs, and they may change over time. Poetry gives one a good indicator of the development and progression of ideas. Poets strive to use their experience, not as an end in itself, but as a means to achieve their goal: successful explication of their opinion. Without their beliefs, any experience becomes flat, meaningless, and open to erroneous judgments.
The final success of a poet is the colorful perception of the world around them, which they see through their understanding of what human life is. Without such an opinion of the world, there is nothing in poetry.
