Working your way through your college years may not be the ideal situation, but it is beginning to be the situation that more and more college students are beginning to face. With the economy in the pits and the cost of college on the rise, mom and dad's pockets are emptying out and your college fund is becoming nonexistent. Do not fret however, there are a ton of odd jobs out there for college students that can earn you some extra cash while allowing you to have time to do your homework and have a social life.
Mail Clerk- You see the mail trucks show up at the school every once in a while, but have you ever wondered how the mail gets from the campus post office to your dorm mailbox? A student worker is up every morning to distribute the mail to the various campus locations, including your residence hall. While it may sound like a pain to have to get up early, working in a position such as a mail clerk will allow you to have your evenings off to hang out with friends, and since the position would be one on campus, your employer is guaranteed to have to work around your class schedule.
Give Plasma- While this is not a full time job, giving plasma is a great way to earn some extra cash as well as getting in a good deed for the day. Even though you can only donate twice in a seven day period, donating plasma can earn you in most places upwards of two-hundred dollars a month. All you have to do is find a plasma center near you, spare a couple hours of your time, and get over your fear of needles.
Clean-Up Crew- Sounds fabulous right? Ok, so cleaning up other people's messes might not be such a glamorous job, but at least the gig is only a couple nights a week for a couple hours at a time. You know all of those basketball games you love going to? You will think twice before you ever leave your drink on the bleachers again, because this job will require you to clean up all of the drinks everyone else has left. It sounds gross but the money is worth it, right?
Nude Model- So you know the move scenes where the art students get to draw the nude models in class? Chances are that same scenario is being played out somewhere on your campus. Colleges across the country use real life nude models for their art students to draw. Only problem is, they are sometimes short in stock. Not many people want to expose their body to a room full of students. If you have the confidence to do it though, you can earn some extra cash and maybe a hot date!
Night-Time Waitress- While it would mean giving up some of your nighttime activities, working as a waitress at a local restaurant is an ideal situation. Restaurants are always busy at night, and you can make great tips during the dinner rush. Not only this, but stick around for the late shift and you will enjoy being hit on by drunks, then rolling in the dough when you flirt back. Who said drunks don't tip well? Many campuses also have several restaurants nearby so you should have a nice variety of dining establishments within walking distance of your dorms.
On Campus Work- Since you are a student, you will also have the alternative to work on campus. While these may not be the most exciting jobs, they do put money in your wallet. Check with the career center on your campus to see what is available and start raking in the cash today!
