Dedication, Direction and Deadlines: Top Tricks to Pounding Out the Pages That Publish
As a professional writer with many years of experience at writing all types of pieces quickly and under all sorts of conditions, I certainly have learned a few things about pounding out pages of perfection for publication. First and foremost, being a more productive writer requires you to WANT to be a writer. You can't write to impress others, you can't write for the money, you can't write for the recognition and fame, and you can't write out of obligation. You must have some sort of burning depression and separation anxiety when away from a writing implement or computer keyboard and you must have a passion that burns inside of you at the thought of not only writing itself, but at how you will feel when the words that you have carefully crafted come out worldwide. If you don't possess these qualities, then quit and cut now.
Why would you do that, you ask? Because the life of any working creative professional is far from glamorous and far from highly paid in all cases. Worse, the life of any serious creative professional is filled with long working hours, fear, rejection, restless times of nothing, arrogance, and the invasion of everything that makes a human being a human being, including moral and ethical standards and privacy. And, if you don't like it-tough. It's just the way it is.
So, what is the good news in all of this? Sometimes your "creative life" surprises you and you are blessed with infinite abundance and plenty of inspiration aptly followed by the right amount of professional and personal validation. And for those things, you should be as productive as is HUMANLY possible-every day. Here's how:
1. Get up early. If need be, invest in an alarm clock to scare you out of your slumber.
2. Eat breakfast. Whether you like it or not, this will give you the much-needed energy and stamina to succeed throughout the day.
3, Investigate what is selling at the present moment you are writing in every market that you believe you are qualified enough, and talented enough, to write in. This will give you, the lowly paid lizard in your lowest thoughts the direction and confidence needed to press forward with pounding out pages and at least some form of temporary bliss and security whilst your final document arrives in your agent or publisher's office.
4. Be prepared to write and to creatively conceptualize several pieces that might sell in each
