This year has not been perfectly rosy so far. Why not improve your outlook with a long lasting bouquet? These scents are all variations on the heady scent of rose, in all price ranges, some old and some new.

1. Cannabis Rose by Fresh. Yes, it smells like roses grown in a marijuana field. There is also an undertone of chocolate, if the other components are not addictive enough for you. This scent combines the qualities of the gourmand, herbal, and floral categories of perfume. At least it is safe and legal. $75 for 100ml, at

2. Red Roses by Jo Malone. This is an English rose. It is straightforward and direct, a lush bouquet of pure beauty, or a walk in a walled garden. It's $95 for 100ml. It can be found at jomalone.com, along with more exotic scents like pomegranate noir, which is definitely for evening scent.

3. Roseberry is from Parfums de Rosine. It's garden rose, but underlain by orrisroot and violet leaf, and paired with juicy raspberry. It all makes a rich mixture. The website aedes de venusta sells it, for $125 for 3.4 ounces.

4.Rose Poivree is made by Different Company. This is more than a peppered rose. It is a dark, oily, dirty and pungent rose. This blowsy rose is never corny or little girl. In fact, it smells like sin. $281 at Different Company.

5. Demeter makes Rose Bush. This is an herbal rose, if there is such a thing. The scent has chamomile in the mix, as well as woody base notes. They have bottled the bush and some of the soil along with the rose. It's very realistic: it doesn't smell like cologne; it actually smells like a rose bush. It is $68 for 1.7 ounces at Demeter.

6. Une Folie de Rose is from Parfums de Rosine. This is a strange perfume. By category, it is a rose chypre. Chypre is French for Cypress, and is the perfumer's term for scents that imitate the smells of the island. Chypre was originally a perfume invented in1917 by Francois Coty, but its ingredients have been included in other scents ever since. It probably includes citrus, oak moss, and synthetic ambergris. Chypre itself is rather androgynous, but this odd perfume is completely feminine. Find it at aedes.com.

7. Egyptian Bergamot Rose is from Pacifica Company. It is said to be made from an old Arabian recipe intended for seduction. It includes bergamot (the flavoring of Earl Grey tea) and labdanum with its rose. Labdanum is a resin derived from the rockrose. It has a complex, warm, dark, woody smell.
