Tips on how to lose weight

1. When you begin your diet, keep a food diary. Record everything you put in your mouth, what time it was, what you were doing at the time, and your feelings. 9. If you eat late at night, you should eat carbohydrates like a slice of bread (wholemeal!) or a cream cracker before bedtime to ensure that your cravings will be kept under control. Keep an orange or a glass of water by your bed if hunger strikes during the night and wakes you up.

10. Weigh yourself once a week at exactly the same time, e.g. at 8am on a Monday. Your weight will fluctuate all the time and you can weigh as much as 3 lbs more at night than you did in the morning, which can be a massive downer if you stuck to your diet all day.

11. Don't go to the supermarket when you're hungry. You'll only purchase more high-calorie items. Avoid finger foods like biscuits and crisps that are very easy to eat in large amounts. Don't consume large quantities of high-calorie liquids like fizzy pop which are so easy to overdo. This includes alcoholic drinks!

12. The main reason for you to lose weight should be to make yourself happy. Not to please your partner, your friends or your parents.
