Best versions of Monopoly

Monopoly is one of the most well-known board games in the Western world today. Though not everyone owns a copy of the game, it is one of those classics that most people have played at least once in their lifetime. While there is a certain level of ongoing popularity with Monopoly, people are sometimes hesitant to get a game started because they know it will not be a brief venture. A full game of classic Monopoly can take several hours, particularly if both sides are able to build up monopolies of properties featuring house and hotels. Over the years, many different versions of Monopoly have been created for a variety of age groups and sub-communities. Here are a few brief thoughts on a few of the best versions of the classic board game Monopoly.

Classic Play

Any discussion of the best version of Monopoly has to start with the standard "classic" version. Despite modern advances, there is something rather nostalgic about those classic pieces like the dog, top hat, classic car, and iron. In addition, landing on the Monopoly space, going to jail, and buying that first house can be a great deal of fun for the player. Monopoly is about aggressive buying, fortunate dice rolling, and being the first to gain ownership of like-colored spaces. There are plenty of updated versions of Monopoly, but the "old school" version still have a great deal of appeal for new generations of players.

Themes

Another candidate for "best" version of Monopoly is actually many different versions. The game of Monopoly has been distributed around a variety of geographic, sports, entertainment, and lifestyle themes. These includes versions built as a tribute to the Simpsons, the New York Yankees, the Clone Wars, American Idol, Disney Pixar, The Beatles, Spongebob Squarepants, the Transformers, Nintendo, Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean, Seinfeld, I Love Lucy, Golf Signature Holes, Elvis, the NHL, and the Night Sky, just to name a few. The themed version of Monopoly allows the fan of the particular theme to enjoy the game from their particular rooting perspective.

Digital Life

Finally, there are video game versions of Monopoly that have been created over the years. These have included versions for personal computers, but there have also been versions for specific video game systems. One of the latest versions is for the popular Nintendo Wii, which includes interactive ways of playing the game. The Wii version includes the standard board and a "World" board, as well as mini-games, and a "get rich quick" style of playing the game.

Despite changes in game playing over time, it is likely that the game of Monopoly will maintain some popularity into the future. With different versions always arriving on the market and a continual willingness of society to be nostalgic, the game will likely remain as a part of gaming culture. Do not pass go and do not collect $200.
