Poetry: A day at the beach

by Angela Luevano

Created on: June 18, 2009

From the beach you watch the waves roll in,

let them come to you, let it begin.

They bring with them the essence of life,

either soft as a pillow, or sharp as a knife.

Palms up, slowly now, place your hands

deep into the cold, soft, wet sand.

Close your eyes, gently now, lift up, let it filter,

be ready, don't let it throw you off kilter.

Now, eyes wide open, what you see,

take a close look because it may not be,

as in life, exactly what you expected,

but with it you are instantly connected.

Whether it bites you on your toes

or kisses you on the nose,

such is life, you cannot control,

either way, it's now a part of your soul.

Whether it's good or bad that you end up with,

it's yours to face and to handle, it's not a myth,

as in life, good or bad, you must face it,

you must move forward, you cannot quit.

So let it bite you on your toes

or let it kiss you on the nose,

simply wince and fight, or smile, until the next filter,

and never once should you let it throw you off kilter.
