Reflections on the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final

The UEFA final was something to write home about. it was between the Portuguese champions and English champions, Barcelona and Manchester united. The English side being the defending champions and English defending and present champions had this as an important one but fell two goals short as Like his team, Ronaldo was clearly in the ascendancy in his personal duel with Messi. baca as they are known around the world, took the glory for the 4th time. They both played well but with different formations, Barcelona with 1. Victor valdez, 2Carles Puyol, 3. Sylvinho, 4.segio Busquets 5.Gnegneri yaya toure, 6.Gerard pique, 7. Samuel Eto'o, 8.Andres iniesta, 9.lionel messi 10.Xavi and 11.Thierry Henry. They have top scorers in their team know around the world and they all posses attacking strategies. With midfield on fire. They played with lots of defense and counter attack. on the other team was a four- four-two formation. 1. Edwin van der sar, 2.John O' shea, 3.Patrice evra, 4.Michael carrick, 5.Rio ferdinand, 6. Nemanja vidic, 7.J.S. park, 8.Cristiano ronaldo, 9.Ryan giggs, 10. anderson, 11.Wayne Rooney. The normal formation was defaulted because of the opponents. evra was ready for the attack fromlionel messi and he was change by his coach to keep ferdinand and vidic alert while evra had eto to contend with, while carrick had iniesta to barricade off the eighteen box. it was a ding-dong battle but at the end of the day, Barcelona took the glory. Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi scored the goals either side of half-time but to single those two out for special praise would be unfair on their team-mates, and particularly Xavi, who was simply awesome. For once Cristiano Ronaldo could provide no magic of his own, instead getting increasingly frustrated as defeat loomed. The two coaches hand shook themselves and left for the dressing room. They were perplexed with the standard of play from both of them. Even the substitute, carlos tevez 's impact wasn't felt that much as he was caged by yaya toure till the end of the game. Both teams and coaches really learnt a new method of defaulting players' position and method of play. With the absence of key players like abidal, puyol, danni alvez and fletcher. the fright came only from the team fans but when you are in the field of play, it s a ball game.
