Wanting to help others with weight loss is wonderful. Encouraging someone to be healthier, more active, and make weight loss a priority are all noble gestures. But how exactly do you help others with weight loss? The following tips will help you help others with weight loss.
Tip #1 for Helping Others with Weight Loss
Offer to exercise with the person you are trying to encourage to lose weight. People are more likely to stick to an exercise routine when they have a friend to exercise with them. It gets boring exercising alone, so people quit. Make a plan, and stick to it, to help others with weight loss through exercise. Consistency is very important, so don't drop the ball. When you make a commitment, follow through with it.
Tip #2 for Helping Others with Weight Loss
Make healthy meals. If the person you are trying to help lose weight is a family member, the first place to start in helping them is with the food you eat. Cook nutritious, healthy meals and buy only healthy snacks. Provide more fruits and vegetables and less junk food. Clean the cupboards out completely when trying to help others with weight loss at home. If the junk food is not in the house, they are less likely to eat it. Most people will not get in the car and travel to the store for a snack, especially if there is a healthy alternative available. Make sure that alternative is there and encourage them to try it.
Tip #3 for Helping Others with Weight Loss
Help your friend come up with good weight loss goals. Setting unrealistic goals for weight loss is a sure way to ruin a plan. When weigh in day comes around and the scale doesn't show what the person expects or wants, they will get discouraged and want to give up. Help them come up with goals that are attainable, preferably non-weight related goals. The scale is notorious for causing heartache. It's much better to make goals for losing a set amount of inches, walking a certain number of miles, or fitting into a smaller size. When they reach these goals, the weight loss will show up also.
Another very important thing to remember when trying to help others with weight loss is to be there for them. People who are trying to lose weight will be riding an emotional rollercoaster. They need the support of a good friend. Share their triumphs, commiserate with their problems, and offer encouragement along the way. There is no better way to help others lose weight than by being a good friend.
