The importance of a website when running a business

One of the chief reasons having a website is important is because your competitor has one. More often than not if people need a product or service, they look it up on line first. If they find websites for your competitors and not you, they will most likely do business with one of them. So, it's important to stand up and be counted.

It's a good idea to study the websites of your competitors. What do they offer that you don't? How do they make it easier for their customers to buy from them or obtain services from them? After determining the differences, make the changes that make sense to you.

Another important reason to have a website is to have an easy way to reconnect with clients. It often happens that you meet a potential client or customer somewhere and they think they might want to use you but aren't sure. By having an informative website, they can check you out without having to commit. Therefore, make sure your website is informative enough so clients can get a good feel for what you do, how you do it, and the quality of your work.

An important use for your website is to gather names and email addresses of potential customers and actual customers. The quickest way to lose those customers is to pursue them aggressively. In order to build up a list of potential customers have your website designer build in a "join" button to your website. Offer those who join a discount on an item or service or valuable information packet.

A newsletter is a great way to keep the interest of your customers. Fill your electronic newsletter with short informative articles related to your business. It is especially effective if you can also throw in a coupon or two to get your customers eager to open the newsletter. Most importantly, make the newsletter more about topics of interest related to your business rather than directly about your business. You want your customers to realize that you like giving them information that is valuable to them.

Another great reason to have a website is to provide customer service and to gather the opinions of your customers. There are plenty of ways to gather information on your website. You can conduct a poll, or a comparison choice. You can also make a questionnaire available or can put a suggestion box on your website.

Through all these techniques, you can learn how to serve your customers and clients in order to retain their business.
