Why the English Premiership team Aston Villa have a point to prove

back down the league and never really regained their place. One of the main reasons being that the clubs above Villa at the time had a lot more money to spend on players each year.

The manager that they have now in Martin O'Neill made his reputation in putting together good squads of players for very little expense. Added to this the fact that the club was bought out from previous chairman Doug Ellis, and the new owners have a lot more money to spend. This mixture of a good manager as well as more money to spend means that Aston Villa can finally afford to develop a team over a few seasons and afford to make new signings as they need them as well.

Whether Aston Villa can ever be a real threat to the current big four is a long stretch, but stranger things have happened. After all not so long ago Chelsea were a perennial mid table club, and now they are always in the top 3. The main difference between the top four and Aston Villa is that they tend to spend a lot more money, with the exception of Arsenal. Arsenal tend to do the same thing as Aston Villa are now, developing a young squad of players and developing talents right from the youth level. They currently do it even better than Aston Villa, although to be fair Arsene Wenger has had a lot longer to perfect his system.
