Should the chain restaurant also take your blood pressure to evaluate whether or not they can recommend the daily special? Could we possibly enforce Target to post warning signs on all of their televisions sets that read:

"Warning! This television will get channels that you may find offensive".

Or maybe put warning labels on clothing:

"Warning! This outfit may make you look less than perfect and we are very sorry that we can't make clothes that give everyone the impression you exercise when you clearly don't!"

If we are going to require companies to babysit us, where does it stop? There will always be people that will lobby their own agenda. It is a good citizen's job to laugh in their face. I am reminded of the bumper sticker that says something to the effect of 'if you aren't furious, you aren't paying attention.' Personally, I am paying attention and I am offended.

Requiring one to be responsible for another's choices is just another injustice brought on by a conscienceless politicians looking for ways to further their own career. This is no different than the ridiculous law suits that take time away from truly important issues that we as taxpayers need resolved.

Rosa L. DeLauro's (the Connecticut Congresswoman supporting the cause) own father ran a pastry shop. I would like to personally ask her how she would feel if her late father was blamed and maligned because he was a pusher of fat and cholesterol. Pushing it on the weak sugar-loving clientele without advantage of the today's awareness. What if a family came into his shop, clearly in need of some nutritional and self control counseling, and ordered 6 dozen pastries to go. Would she have tugged on her father's sleeve and instructed him to ignore the principles by which he started this bakery? Instead he could have denied them their purchase and instruct these poor metabolism-challenged souls in the art of eating to live?

I find the cause and debate ridiculous and I am whole heartedly ashamed that a Congressperson with such an esteemed record would stoop to such a low. Maybe she has lost sight of what makes a stronger society. So let me remind you Congresswoman.

Personal responsibility

Integrity

Bravery

Strength of character

Self control

None of the above would be encouraged by your pet project. Instead the public would be under served and overindulged. But if you will not relent then I have a new project for you after you succeed in adding yet another rule to the books. My son is allergic to peanuts. Maybe you could start the ball rolling on anything with peanuts in it being against the law? Death penalty perhaps? That would make me and a handful of other so happy. I mean, really, why should I look out for my own interests when I have you?
