PRO OF GOYARD vs. LOUIS VUITTON

Maison de Goyard and Louis Vuitton are both longstanding, luxury houses that offer bags. Goyard was established in 1853, Vuitton in 1854. In all of the time that Goyard has been in existence they have not marred their name with controversy.

When a person owns a bag, that bag can be an extension of who they are. When people see you wearing a certain brand, they might associate you with the brand's past. By choosing a brand like Goyard, a shopper is choosing style and virtue.

Unlike Goyard, Louis Vuitton has an unseemly event in their past. As stated in the book, Louis Vuitton: A French Saga (Louis Vuitton, une saga francaise), written by Stephanie Bonvicini, the Vuitton family were active supporters of Marshall Phillipe Petain's puppet government, the Vichy regime. The Vichy Regime and Petain's leadership were a smokescreen for the Nazis. The Vuittons became more affluent from their dealings with the Vichy Regime and the Nazis. They erected a manufacturing plant expressly for the production of sculpture that exalted Petain. In their factory, the Vuittons produced more than 2,500 busts to perpetuate the Vichy Regime. The Vichy Regime sent their own people, the French Jews, to German concentration camps. Acting in concert with Petain, the Vuitton family helped fund the Nazis and profited off of these tragic deaths. Consumers may want to eschew Louis Vuitton and go with Goyard if they disagree with what the Vuitton family did in the past.

CON OF GOYARD vs. LOUIS VUITTON

There is a real visibility problem when one considers purchasing a bag from Goyard, especially when contrasted with Louis Vuitton. Goyard is sold at Maison Goyard, and select Daslu, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York locations. Goyard is not in every city, everywhere. Goyard can be found in stores at the following locations: Paris, Beverly Hills, Boston, Hong Kong, Kyoto, London, New York, Osaka, San Francisco, Sao Paolo, Seoul and Tokyo. If someone does not live near one of these twelve cities, they will need to call the nearest Goyard location and have the item shipped. This may not be ideal for all, and it is definitely something to keep in mind. Shipping an item might prove to be exorbitant depending on ones' location.

An obstacle for online luxury shoppers is that Goyard's website does not offer any e-commerce. In fact, there are no actual photographs of their bags on their website, whatsoever. The only images of their products are illustrations of past special orders. Additionally, in the video under the link, Chic du Chien, there are some illustrations of bags.

Louis Vuitton's website offers a complete online shopping experience under the link E-Shopping. Their products are widely available across the United States and internationally in Louis Vuitton stores and certain luxury boutiques.
