God's personal name

In the Jewish and Christian traditions, the name for God as given in the Bible is YHVH, which is pronounced Yahveh or Yahweh in modern English. Traditional Jews do not speak this name of God lest they misuse the name. This repect is also given other names of God- which is often written G-d, just in case.

The Muslims use the name 'Allah' for God. Allah was originally the name of one of the Pagan Gods worshipped in the holy places in Mecca. It is now used as a name for God as understood by Muslims.

In Pagan religions with many Gods, each God has a personal name: Thor, Zeus, Kali, Inanna and so on.

In all cases, believers tend to treat the name of their God or Gods with respect. Blaspheming the name of the Most High is never the way to get in good with the Divine Power, however your faith conceives of It.
